UNDERWORLD »

I watched Trainspotting again this weekend, and have obviously been on and Underworld trip ever since.  Here they are live from the Fox Theatre in…Oakland? YES!  Oakland, California.  I’ve seen them once at the Hollywood bowl, and it was absolutely epic.  This time they’re displaying their new set up, adding some balloons, and switching the order of some songs in their set list.

Simian Mobile Disco:  HUGE Track!  From last year, maybe it’s a white label, maybe it’s an edit they made, or maybe it’s something I can track down.  You can bet your ass if it’s out there I’ll get it.

Miss Kittin & The Hacker - PPPO (People Pleasure Objects Power)I heard from the grapevine that these two were getting back together and I thought it was a good thing.  Then I heard this song and knew that it was a GREAT thing!  This song is such a bleeping, squelching, face melter that if you played it out the people that were drinking water would trip balls.

The rest of the album is great as well, but may have a little too much of the electroclash (is that even still a word) influence for some, even though that should be expected.  HOWEVER, there are a couple more to check out that are in a style similar to Alec Empire’s Limited Editions 90-94 album.  Nice n’ Creepy.

Quiet Village:  Quiet my ass!  Joel Martin and Matt Edwards (Radio Slave) keep the slinky vibe alive with their lurching album, Silent Movie.  This is actually old news (last year sometime), but I’ve been listening to them a lot lately and figured that more people should know about it.  Many of the tracks from the album are played in the video so pay attention.

The description of the video is “how the prodigy ripped off…”.  Stupid.  This is how The Prodigy took samples from different songs and made a cohesive whole out of it and gave it a more organic feel to other music coming out then and now.   Something that’s lacking from music today.

THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS:  They’re Coming Back!  Just get past the absolutely huge Popof Remix of Tiga’s Sunglasses at Night and you’ll know what I’m talking about.  I’d have to say, seeing these guys twice, their DJ sets are out of this world and not to be missed.
